Laws specifically for sexting related incidents are not available in Maryland, as such, any person regardless of age caught possessing or distributing images containing minors engaging in sexual activity is charged under the state’s child pornography laws.
If convicted, the individual would face felony charges including jail time, fines and be required to register as a sex offender.
Up until now, Maryland lawmakers have not proposed any bills to lessen the charges for minors.
Punishments:
- Felony charges.
- Up to $25,000 in fines.
- Up to 10 years in prison.
- Registration as a sex offender.
