Sexting Laws in Iowa:
Under Iowa’s current laws pertaining to sexting, any person, regardless of age, caught possessing or sharing images containing minors engaging in sexual activity is charged under the child pornography laws.
If convicted, the individual can face fines, jail time and be required to register as a sex offender.
Exemption is not yet available for minors sharing sexual images with other minors does not matter if they consent to the act or not.
Punishments:
- A felony.
- Up to $50,000 in fines.
- Up to 10 years in prison.
- Registration as a sex offender.
