Sexting Laws in North Carolina:
Currently, North Carolina does not have a separate law for sexting.
Any person, regardless of age, caught producing, possessing or distributing images containing minors engaging in sexual activity is charged under the state’s child pornography laws.
Under these laws, the individual is charged with a felony punishable with prison time, fines and must register as a sex offender.
Exemption is not available for minors who are under 18 years of age. As such, any minor caught sexting sexual images are charged under the state’s child pornography laws which are very strict and the consequences can ruin one’s life.
Punishments:
- Charged with a felony.
- Up to 9 years in prison.
- Must register as a sex offender.
