    Recognizing the needs to protect minors from sexting problem avoiding the need to register as sex offenders under the child pornography laws, Massachusetts lawmakers proposed a bill to lessen the charges.

    The bill, however, was unapproved. As such, any minor caught sending images containing minors in sexual explicit stage are charged under the child pornography laws.

    Under the Massachusetts child pornography laws, any individual regardless of age found producing, possessing, and/or distributing images, videos or any other types of medias is charged with a felony. If convicted, the individual shall face up to 20 years in prison, fines and be required to register as a sex offender.

     

    Punishments:

    • Charged as a felony.
    • Up to 20 years in prison.
    • Up to $50,000 in fines.
    • Registration as a sex offender.
