Maine currently does not have laws specifically for sexting. As such, any person regardless of age found sending or receiving images containing minors engaging in sexual activity is charged under the state’s child pornography laws.
These laws are very strict and if convicted, the minor can face jail time, fines and be required to register as a sex offender.
Exemption is not available for minors who sext sexual images to another minor regardless if they are in a relationship, with consent or not.
Punishments:
- A Felony.
- Fines.
- Up to 10 years in prison.
- Registration as a sex offender.
